Bring on the Bebingford Bunch!

The Bebingford Bunch – Series of Children’s Books

Created by Lisa Jane Robinson

The aim is to write a series of kids’ books that bring a light-hearted, yet, honest approach to everyday situations and problems that kids aged 9-11 face.

I want to tackle issues that are not currently covered in kids’ books. I aim to do this in a realistic and not ‘sugar-coated’ approach to the many issues kids this age experience every single day.

The Bebingford Bunch – is a series of short stories that overlap, featuring the children of Miss Summertime’s class.

I want there to be a book for each child in the class. Each one exploring a different topical issue, yet flowing on from each other. With the same characters re-occurring in each book.

The first book in this series is Molly Marvel the Mystical Magician.

This book tells the story of a seemingly spoilt child who gets what she wants, when she wants it. Her world is turned upside-down when her parents tell her that they are expecting a baby. Molly’s only wish is for them to go away, but what would happen if they did?

The moral of this story is ‘you don’t know what you have until it’s gone’. The book itself covers issues such as what happens when you hear your parents are going to have another baby, learning to share and the book mildly touches on the issue of Bullying. I have spoken to companies like Tommy’s and Bliss for research on this particular project.

Molly Marvel will be used as a work in progress piece to showcase the idea of what I would like to achieve here at the Bebingford Bunch.

If you would like an advance copy, you can email bebingfordbunch@outlook.com to request this.

In addition to this, there are plans for – ‘Trixie Foule, the Coolest Kid in School’, which is a follow on from Molly Marvel, as Trixie is Molly’s best friend and will cover the issues of Trixie growing up with lots of brothers and sisters, being the youngest child, and focuses more on issues such as Bullying and poverty. The tagline for this story is ‘Triumph over adversity’. I have linked in with Shelter in relation to this story.

I personally would like to thank these charities for their help by taking the time to send me information to help with this project.

Plans

The main aim for the Bebingford Bunch is for it to be a constantly evolving piece of work to be used as a reference and aid to kids going through any of these issues covered. Also, for their friends and colleagues to gather an understanding of what happens in these situations and what support is available for them, their parents and relatives.

I want to get as many people as possible involved in the project to give it a first hand approach. Both parent and kids who have experienced a specific issues – are more than welcome to contribute and get in touch.

I would also like to take this piece into schools and complete workshops for children on the issues that are covered – getting charities and companies involved to make this the best and most effective project it can be.

We Need Your Help!!!

Here at the Bebingford Bunch, we are keen to get constant feedback and ideas to make sure that the Bebingford Bunch stories are relevant, focused and stick to our aim of ‘writing a series of kids’ books that bring a light-hearted, yet, honest approach to everyday situations and problems that kids face today.’

We are keen to focus on issues not currently covered in children’s literature and in the media. These could be issues that may be difficult and challenging. But, with the help of potentially taboo subjects being discussed, this will raise awareness and can be used as a point of reference for children experiencing similar issues.

With this in mind, we would really like to hear from you to see what you would like to see in future books. All you need to do, is click on the little link below and answer a few quick questions…and who knows…your story could feature in a future book!

A few final tweaks

We have had a busy few months here at the Bebingford Bunch. In May, the Amazing Alix came on board and did some lovely illustrations for Molly Marvel. So now, we are pretty much ready to get this out to people.

Work has also started on the second book – Trixie Foule, the Coolest Kid in School.

We are at the stage now where we are looking for an editor and a proof reader to give Molly Marvel the final fabulous tweaks it needs to make sure that it is a most fantastical read – If you are a proof reader/editor or know someone is, please let us know using one of the ways below.

In addition to this, we are looking for a publisher to see our dream become reality.

Please see our Facebook page for some more lovely pictures by Alix and updates on what is happening with us:
